About Our School

St. Therese of Jesus School
St. Therese of Jesus School is a PreK-8th Grade Catholic school located in Aurora, Illinois. We are recognized by the State of Illinois and are part of the Diocese of Rockford.
At St. Therese School, we believe “Academics + Faith = Success.” In today’s world, children need both a strong academic program and a solid background of morality and values. That is why we teach the whole child: Academics and faith are taught at every grade level.
In 2009, we adopted the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program (PBIS). This program focuses on identifying and reinforcing positive behavior, not just punishing bad behavior. This helps children develop the desire to behave as well as supporting role models of good conduct. At St. Therese School, students are recognized for both good grades and good behavior.
In 2010, we have adopted new curricula for Math and Language Arts classes. Instead of relying solely on textbooks or poorly-worded descriptions, the curricula clearly state what each child should be able to do at each grade level. For example, we don’t say children in Grade 3 will know how to use money; they will, “Compute sums and differences in dollars and cents.” By using clearly worded phrases of observable behavior, we ensure teachers can accurately assess a student’s progress.
